Dearplates was founded by Mei, a woman whose life has been shaped by the scent of kiln fire and the cool touch of raw clay. Born into a family that has mastered the art of pottery for generations in one of China’s most historic ceramic regions, Mei’s playground was her father’s workshop. She didn’t just watch the art happen; she lived it, getting her hands stained with glaze and earth before she could even write.
Driven by a desire to bring this ancient craftsmanship to the modern world, Mei moved to the United States to study at a leading art institute. During her time abroad, she realized that while people loved modern design, they craved something personal and soul-filled—something that mass-produced items couldn't offer.
She eventually returned to her family's traditional workshop, bridging the gap between her roots and her new vision. By combining the century-old firing techniques of her hometown with the personalized art of today, she created Dearplates. Today, Mei leads a team of local master artisans, ensuring that every brushstroke on your custom plate carries the weight of history and the warmth of a personal gift.
